Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training

As many of you know, leukemia is the #1 disease killer of children in the United States. What many people do not know is that leukemia actually affects many more adults than children. The good news is that there have been great strides in the treatment of the disease. For example, the survival rate for the most common form of childhood leukemia has improved from 4% in 1960 to 79% today, and the overall survival rate for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma is now over 80%. This success is directly related to funding for research, professional education and community outreach. Since 1988, Team in Training has raised over $100 million to support these crucial functions.

Being associated with this organization has helped me grow immensely as a human being.  Everyone involved; from the event coordinators who plan everything pertaining to an event (event kick-off breakfasts, keeping track of individuals fundraising, planning pre-ride pasta dinners and post-ride celebration dinner), the coaches (who motivate us during every training ride and provide us with guidance during the 16 week training period), the mentors (team mates who have performed a number of events and provide support to other team mates), and the other team mates who may be riding their first or one hundred and first century, all provide motivation to enable us to complete our event and the fund raising associated with the event.

I am extremely proud to be associated with such an awesome group of people who all have a common goal – TO FIGHT AND ELIMINATE CANCER!
